America’s Choice

Crown Point Central School is nearing completion of full implementation of our America’s Choice School Design.  Staff and students in grades K-12 have made great progress in creating a learner-centered environment for our students.  With the support and effort of the whole TEAM, (BOE, Administration, Faculty, Staff, Students and Parents), we have improved our scores.  The Crown Point Central School has been removed from the “School In Need of Improvement” list and earned the designation of “good standing” on the State School Accountability Status Listing.  The entire school community deserves to be commended for this great accomplishment!!  Keep up the good work!!!

America’s Choice National Conference

(Submitted by Mrs. Hall)

A team from Crown Point Central School traveled to Hollywood, California in January 2004 to make a presentation at the America’s Choice National Conference held at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel.

The workshop was entitled, “America’s Choice in Kindergarten”.  Lisa Harrington, kindergarten teacher, shared how the implementation of Reader’s and Writer’s workshop evolved at Crown Point using personnel including the AIS team, Literacy coaches, Speech and Occupational Therapists, teaching aides and assistants, and grade 6 cross age tutors.  The areas addressed in the presentation included room set-up, rituals and routines, and how author and genre studies were integrated across the curriculum.  Evidence of student growth was shared through analysis of student work and assessment results.  Student’s sourcebooks and actual writing pieces were on display.
