School Requirements

Attendance Excuses: New York State Law states that absences from school are legal for the following reasons:

  1. Sickness of student of family sickness or death
  2. School emergency closing or delay
  3. Religious observance or instruction
  4. Required court appearance
  5. Approved college visits
  6. Approved doctor/dental appointments
  7. Quarantine
  8. Military obligation
  9. Activities sanctioned by the Superintendent of Board of Education

A note from a parent or guardian is required for each absence. The note should contain all of the following information:

  1. The Student's Name
  2. Date(s) of Absence
  3. Reason for the Absence
  4. Signature of Parent or Guardian

A student must bring a written excuse to school the day after the absence. If an excuse has not been brought in by the second day, the parent/guardian will be notified by the nurse. If an excuse has not been brought in by the third day, the student will have one day of after-school detention for every day the excuse is late.
